Weekend writing retreat offered on Whitehead Island

Thu, 04/11/2019 - 1:00pm

For the third year, Whitehead Light Station will be offering a weekend writing retreat led by Belfast writer Linda Buckmaster. The workshop runs from August 1 to 4. This year’s topic,  “Writing the Personal Essay,” is open to both experienced and new writers. Registration by May 10 is strongly encouraged.

Whitehead Island, located on Muscle Ridge Channel at the entrance to Penobscot Bay, is a classic Maine island and Lightkeeper’s house and the retreat provides time to explore, write, and relax.

For inspiration and craft, we will read a variety of essayists and look at how they use the writer’s toolkit of image, voice, language, narration, and structure, and how we might use them in our own writing. We will write in response to writing prompts and activities. Whether you are a beginner or a published author, this class will help you move your writing to the next level.

Whatever your interest, you will discover what you want to say and how to say it.

We will write in plein air among the nooks and crannies of the island and in cozy spots in the Lightkeeper’s House. Class size is limited to 14. Registration includes accommodations, food, workshop, and transport to and from the island. To register, visit http://www.whiteheadlightstation.org/2019-writing-workshop.html
