Luckily this brutal heat wave breaks this weekend. Just in time for an amazing three sunshiny days of fairs, festivals, a sculpture race. Throw in some BBQ, comedy and a birthday bash and we’ve got ourselves a humdinger of a weekend.

Killer Road Trip: Topsham Fair

Thursday August 9 to Sunday August 12 — Topsham

If you like an old fashioned Maine fair, this is it. It actually goes on for an entire week, but since we publish Weekend Spotlight Thursday, this is what you can expect: steer and oxen pulls, redneck tractor pulls, sheep riding, demolition derbies, fireworks, drone racing, he-man she-woman contests, country and bluegrass. Maine Boats & Home Show

Friday, August 10 to Sunday, August 12 — Rockland

‘Tis the month of festivals in Rockland and with the name change, Maine Boats & Home Show is not just a gathering for boat lovers, but a weekend festival with live music, fine furniture and home wares, arts, architecture, and delicious food. Highlights include a Small Boat Love-In, and the World Championship Boatyard Dog® Trials on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The gates open at 10 a.m. each day. Admission: $15/adult ticket (good all weekend), under 12 FREE admission

Rockland’s 2nd annual Sculpture Race

Saturday, August 11 — Rockland

We’ve been talking about this wacky kinetic race (see our most recent article) and now it is happening this weekend! It starts at 3 p.m. on Winter Street. Cheer the racers on as they push, pull and pedal sculptural contraptions for prizes. Interested in racing? There's still time! Comedian James Judd of NPR’s Snap Judgment

Saturday, August 11— Rockland

Legendary stand-up storyteller and radio personality from NPR's Snap Judgment, James Judd has an impressive resume. He’s also been in the infamous improv troupe The Groundlings, and The New Faces of the Hollywood Improv. Judd’s solo autobiographical show “Funny Stories” includes many of his best NPR stories. With a new book out and often compared to David Sedaris, Judd connects with audiences as he shares stories of "spectacular public embarrassments and utter failures." The Camden Opera House is hosting this event from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $28 to $32 and can be purchased here.

Three Tides 15th Birthday Bash

Saturday, August 11 — Belfast

The Three Tides/Marshall Wharf crew just got back from packing up the Maine Beer Box in Portland and they have another reason to celebrate! It’s their 15th birthday this weekend. The Freemont Street String Band will be playing from 8 to 11 p.m.

Pig Roast, Bands & Brews

Sunday, August 12 — Searsmont

Threshers Brewing Co. is hosting a fundraiser for three local organizations: No Greater Love Food Pantry, Waldo County Woodshed, and Habitat for Humanity of Waldo County. Live music from the Barn Cats will be on the outdoor stage. $10 per plate of BBQ to be donated to the cause. Goes from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. FMI: Threshers
