WASHINGTON — Prescott Memorial School, in Washington, is once again going for the GOLD in the 2020 WinterKids Winter Games to win $5000 with 31 other elementary schools in Maine.

This is Prescott’s second year participating in the games, placing eighth overall in 2019, which won the school ten pairs of snowshoes and several sleds from the sponsors of WinterKids.

Prescott staff and students kicked off the Winter Games on Friday, Jan. 3, with fanfare from the 5th and 6th-grade band and police cruiser escorts for a walk around the school chanting "WinterKids Enjoy The Cold. Prescott Pandas GO FOR GOLD!"

This week all K-6 students have been snowshoeing, making snowmen, designing and testing cardboard sleds, and learning how animals survive in winter.

“Lots of outdoor fun!” said Prescott, in a news release.

Staff, students, and families are also showing their support by bringing along a panda school mascot when they go on outdoor family adventures or preparing healthy foods at home then capturing the moment with pictures and videos.

These “porta-pandas” have participated in lots of fun activities this week.

“The Winter Games provide a great opportunity for our students to learn to make healthy choices and get outdoors for some fun during these long Maine winters,” said Prescott. “We are so grateful that the WinterKids Winter Games organization is there to help us do that and hopefully win the GOLD!”
