Waldoboro Police beat: Arrest warrant, accidents

    WALDOBORO — Waldoboro police responded to 120 calls for service from Dec. 31-Jan. 8. Listed below are a few of the highlights. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

    Dec. 31        

    Officer Jeffery Fuller is investigating a complaint from a citizen about a stolen regulator for a propane tank

    Jan. 1                                                 

    Officer Thomas Bartunek investigated an accident in a parking lot on the Atlantic Highway at 4:58 p.m. David Mank, 74, of Bremen was driving a 2017 Ford pickup truck. The second vehicle was a legally parked 2013 Volkswagen sedan owned by Carol Poulin, 69, of Waldoboro. Mank was off the roadway making an improper turn and struck Poulin’s vehicle which was unattended and parked legally. No injuries were reported.

    Officer Nathaniel Jack investigated an accident on the Bremen Road at 8:30 a.m. George Ganson, 35, of Round Pond, was driving a 2012 GMC pickup truck. He was traveling northbound, following the roadway, and ran off the roadway. No injuries were reported.     

    Bartunek investigated an accident on the Old Augusta Rd at 5:20 p.m. James Letteney, 36, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2015 Toyota utility vehicle. He was traveling eastbound, following the roadway. A deer came out into the road and Letteney was unable to avoid striking it.

    Jan. 2                                                 

    Officer Andrew Santhenson investigated an accident at the Atlantic Highway/Manktown Road intersection at 11:12 a.m. Melissa Ingling, 32, of Warren, was driving a 2012 Chrysler van. Denise Bizer, 51, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2017 Ford sedan. Ingling was stopped on the Manktown Road at the intersection. She then proceeded to make a left turn onto the Atlantic Highway. Bizer was traveling south on the Atlantic Highway. Ingling did not see Bizer coming as she made her turn. Bizer saw Ingling making her turn and tried to go out around her but was not successful. No injuries were reported.

    Jan. 3

    Chief John Lash investigated an accident on the Winslow’s Mills Road at 8:43 a.m. Cindy Dennison, 62, of Warren, was driving a 2008 Nissan sedan. Dennison was traveling southbound, lost control at the railroad tracks, slid off the road and entered a small brook. Injuries were reported.

    Jan. 4                                                 

    Jack investigated an accident on the Feylers Corner Road at 12:40 a.m. John Lohnes, 61, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2012 Suzuki sedan. Lohnes was traveling northbound, following the roadway, when a deer ran out in front of his vehicle. He was unable to stop due to icy conditions and struck the deer. No injuries were reported.

    Matthew Shay, 42, of Waldoboro, was arrested by Fuller on a warrant.

    Fuller investigated an accident on the Manktown Road at 1:26 p.m. Susan Overlock, 70, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2012 Ford utility vehicle. Overlock crossed the centerline, continued off the roadway, striking a utility pole, several small trees and came to rest on the driver’s side of the automobile against two small trees. Injuries were reported.

    Jan. 7          

    Fuller investigated an accident at the Atlantic Highway/Union Road intersection at 1:54 p.m. Staci Murray, 37, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet sedan. Roy Hatch, 51, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2017 Jeep utility vehicle. Murray stopped at stop sign on Union Rd, failed to yield right of way to Hatch, who was traveling southbound on the Atlantic Highway. Injuries were reported.
