ROCKLAND — A Waldoboro man who is accused of setting three fires in a dumpster at a Rockland restaurant where he was employed, remains in the Knox County Jail.

Deven S. Dever, 26, was arrested April 1 by a Maine Fire Marshal investigator, Maryann McMaster, for criminal mischief. The charges against Dever were upgraded to three counts of arson by the District Attorney’s Office April 3.

Dever appeared before Judge Paul Mathews April 3 in Knox County Unified Court. At the hearing, his bail was set at $5,000 cash.

According to the affidavit filed by McMaster in Knox County Unified Court, Dever allegedly set fire to the contents of the dumpster at the restaurant where he worked March 21, 27, and 29. The Rockland Fire Department responded to all three fires, stated Rockland Fire Chief Chris Whytock in the court document.

Dever told McMaster that that he is under a lot of stress and set the fires as a means to calm himself down, according to the affidavit. He also said that he had set seven fires in total.

The bail conditions for Dever include that he cannot possess any incendiary devices or return to his place of employment.

Dever will appear in court again May 16.
