Rockland Public Library will host music journalist and radio host Aimsel Ponti for a Virtual Talk on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m. Ponti will discuss the local music scene in Portland, as well as the impact of the Coronavirus on live music performances this year. She will also give an overview of her own career as a music journalist and radio host and talk about some of her favorite albums of 2020. The program will take place via the Zoom platform.
Aimsel Ponti is a music journalist and content producer at the Portland Press Herald. She started as a freelancer in 2003 and has been full-time since 2011. Her weekly Face the Music column has been running in the Press Herald magazine section since August of 2003. Aimsel also does artist interviews, show reviews, event previews, and food reviews for the Press Herald. For the past five year, Aimsel has hosted Music from 207, the local music show on 98.9 WCLZ, which airs at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Sunday nights.
Additionally, she has been appearing monthly for the past five years on the Newscenter Maine show 207, where she previews upcoming live music performances.
Aimsel graduated from Keene State College with a B.A. in journalism. At Keene, she was very much involved with WKNH, the college’s radio station, according to the Library, in a news release. Aimsel grew up in Andover, Massachusetts and has resided in the Portland area since the mid-1990s. Her biggest passion in life is the live music experience, said RPL.
