FRIENDSHIP – Virginia R. ‘Ginny’ Thompson, 91, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the Knox Center in Rockland.

Born at Bremen Long Island, November 6, 1927, she was the daughter of Joseph F. and Myrtle E. Simmons Thibodeau. After her mother’s death, when Ginny was five, she was adopted by Ada and Emerson Simmons.  Upon the untimely death of Mr. Simmons, Ginny was again adopted by Ada’s new husband, James Murphy. Educated in Friendship Schools, she was a 1945 graduate of Thomaston Academy.

Not afraid of hard work she held multiple jobs throughout her life ranging anywhere from being a CNA or the cook for Governor Saltonstall in Shurburn, MA, to Sylvania and different fish factories. First and foremost though, she was a devoted mother and servant of the Lord. One of her favorite scriptures to quote was Proverbs 22:6... “train up a child in the ways of the Lord and when he is old he will not depart from it”. She had insurmountable love and pride for her family and the friends she claimed as family.  A spirited and feisty woman, Ginny as most called her, was an icon in town, royalty to her family, she had a strong and tough spirit, a speak your mind attitude, an always forgiving heart, and was a LOYAL lover of “her people".  If you were lucky to have her claim you as hers, you can count yourself among the richest.

Ginny, Mom, Nanny, Branny: no matter your title in the moment, you always were the best at preparing a table, now rest, yours has been prepared for you. We will miss you, until we see you again... Love, Your Family

Other than all her parents, Ginny was pre-deceased by her husband Arthur E. ‘Boy’ Thompson, Sr.  She is survived by her children, Arthur E. ‘Bubba’ Thompson, Jr. and his wife Donna, Timothy T. Thompson and his companion Mikki, Sonia Martin and her husband Kyle, Wanda Burnham and her husband Alan all of Friendship, Judith Reed and her husband David of Waldoboro, Dale Gallant and her husband David of Montrose, Colorado, Yvonne Charbonneau and her companion Gregory Dove of Rockland; a step-son Jessie Gerdes of Florida; a brother, Theron Thibodeau and his wife Irene of Friendship; a sister, Barbara Simmons and her husband Wayne of Waldoboro; 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 15.  The Rev. Richard Catalano will officiate.   Spring interment will be in the Old Village Cemetery, Friendship.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Maine Alzheimer’s Association, 383 US Route One #2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
