UPDATED: Multi-sport standout Kristina Kelly secures wrestling state crown

HOWLAND — Months after winning a third consecutive state championship with the Camden Hills varsity girls soccer team, junior Kristina Kelly secured a girls wrestling state championship Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Penobscot Valley High School in Howland. 

Kelly, who has netted 110 goals through three varsity soccer seasons, wrestled Wednesday in the first state championship tournament for female wrestlers, which included 10 wrestlers from the Midcoast. 

This was the first season the Maine Principals Association, the governing body for high school athletics in Maine, held a separate state championship tournament for female wrestlers.

106 pounds: Reese Hesseltine (Medomak Valley) pinned by Rowen Lurring (Washington Academy), pinned Gabriella Taylor (Westbrook) and lost to Emma Shaw (Skowhegan). 

113 pounds: Kristina Kelly (Camden Hills) pinned Jayda Stevens (Oxford Hills) and defeated Rylee Saucier (Caribou) by majority decision. 

120 pounds: Morgan Fonger (Mount View) pinned by Kiah Wilson (Bucksport) and pinned by Marina Theriault (Mattanawcook). 

120 pounds: Hailey Wood (Mount View) defeated Alayna Alton (Skowhegan) by forfeit, pinned Kiah Wilson (Bucksport) and pinned Molly Bennett (Dexter). 

132 pounds: Emily Harris (Medomak Valley) pinned by Zoe Buteau (Lisbon/Oak Hill). 

132 pounds: Emma Fonger (Mount View) pinned Shawnee Berke (Cheverus), pinned Rachel Tucker (Skowhegan) and pinned by Zoe Buteau (Lisbon/Oak Hill). 

145 pounds: Elizabeth Bowman (Medomak Valley) pinned Destiny Therrien (Mountain Valley), pinned by Madeline Tardiff (Nokomis), defeated Katelyn Walker (Windham) and lost to Alyssa Macquire (Bucksport). 

145 pounds: Jordana Duncan (Belfast) pinned by Brooke Birkhahn (Deering). 

160 pounds: Brooke Richards (Belfast) pinned by Breeana Cameron (Monmouth) and pinned by Neringa Parutyte (Mount Ararat). 

182 pounds: Felicy Magnant (Mount View) lost to Paige Anderson (Bucksport), pinned by Elyse Homer (Monmouth).
