Fri, 02/01/2019 - 9:30pm

WALDO COUNTY — Several towns in Waldo County were without power today, Friday, Feb. 1, but by 7 p.m., the issue had been resolved with Central Maine Power restoring electricity.

According to Waldo County EMA Director Dale Rowley: Central Maine Power has completed all repairs to the powerline damage on the Fort Knox Road in the Town of Prospect. Power is restored in Waldo County.  All warming centers are shutting down at this time. Prospect Fire Department and Central Maine crews are going home to get warm.”

The towns of Prospect, Winterport, Frankfort, Stockton Springs, and parts of Searsport are expected to be without electricity until around 6 or 7 p.m., according to Waldo County Emergency Management Agency.

At approximately 3 p.m., a vehicle hit a pole near the Central Maine Power transformer station on Fort Knox Road in Prospect. Due to the incident, Fort Knox Road is down to one lane.

No overnight shelters have been initiated, however, daytime warming centers are available at Prospect Community Center, Winterport Town Office, Stockton Springs Town Office, and Frankfort Congregational Church.

For residents affected by the power outage, Waldo EMA has provided the following recommendations:

Store frozen/cold food in cooler outside.

Close off parts of your house to conserve heat.

Be careful with heating devices because carbon dioxide (CO) can be generated and CI is deadly.

Go to a warming center if you need to.

Do not call 911 for information. Call 911 only to report an actual emergency.
