CAMDEN — United Midcoast Charities, a community-supported nonprofit dedicated to grantmaking and capacity building for local nonprofits, has promoted Kelly Carey, of Brooks, into a new full-time program coordinator role.

Carey joined UMC as administrative coordinator in February 2017. She earned a certificate in volunteer management from the Maine Commission for Community Service in 2018 and is a certified expert and trainer for Foundation Center Online.

As program coordinator, Carey will oversee UMC’s grantmaking process and learning programs. Her goal will be to improve the ability of nonprofit organizations to serve Midcoast residents in the areas of food, housing, health and safety, and economic security.

"This new position reflects Kelly’s strategic support of UMC’s work to address basic needs in Knox and Waldo counties by financially supporting and guiding the efforts of nonprofit agencies,” said Megan Williams, executive director of United Midcoast Charities, in a news release. “We're pleased to have her take on this role as we build out our unique programs to best serve local nonprofits and the Midcoast community."

United Midcoast Charities, founded in 1942, is a 501c3 whose mission is to energize Midcoast Maine nonprofit agencies through finance and guidance, supporting a network of resources stronger than any single organization.

 UMC’s primary areas of focus are food, housing, health, and safety, and economic security.
