BELFAST — A two-day workshop focused on mindful leadership in professional and workplace settings will be offered this spring at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center at 80 Belmont Ave., Belfast.

At the Mindful Leadership workshop, to be held April 13 and 27, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., attendees will practice mindfulness meditation, learn competencies of mindful leadership and discuss strategies for being calmer, more clear-minded and emotionally aware in the workplace.

Mindful Leadership will introduce participants to practical ways to bring mindfulness to daily work life. Based on the corporate mindfulness work of author Rasmus Hougaard, "One Second Ahead; Enhance the Performance at Work with Mindfulness", the workshop will introduce tools and teach techniques for implementing mindfulness at work to enhance focus, clarity, relationships and results. During each session participants will have the opportunity to practice mindfulness meditation, and discuss guidelines to change how they think about people, themselves, and things in the workplace with a goal of being more calm, clear-minded, and emotionally aware.

The program facilitator, Mary Doyle, M.A., R.N., earned a graduate degree in organizational development from Emerson College, a bachelor's degree in human nutrition from the University of Maine and a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Southern Maine.

Doyle is qualified as a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher by the University of California, San Diego Center for Mindfulness. She has additional MBSR teacher training from Bangor University in the United Kingdom. Doyle is the owner of Mindfulness to Work, a private practice that provides training, coaching and leadership training based on the principals of mindfulness throughout New England.

The cost of the two-day workshop is $215 with need-based scholarships available. A light breakfast, refreshments, materials and lunch are included. A UMaine certificate in Mindful Leadership is awarded upon completion. CEU's are available.
