Two charged with arson after pickup burns in Appleton gravel pit

    AUGUSTA – The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office has charged two people with arson for allegedly burning a truck in Appleton, according to a news release from the Maine Office of Public Safety.

    On Oct. 4, 2020, investigators were called to a gravel pit in Appleton where a truck that had been parked there overnight had been burned.

    As a result of the investigation, Corey Spear, 20, and Edward Van Dyke III, 24, were charged with Arson on Oct. 30, 2020, the release said.

    After the initial charge, Spear was issued the additional charge of Tampering with a Witness Nov. 11 for violating his bail by allegedly contacting one of the witnesses, the release said.

    Knox County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
