THOMASTON — Trekkers is pleased to announce that Katlyn Rich and Shale Peters have both joined the Trekkers team as  2018-2019 AmeriCorps Program Assistants. Katlyn and Shale will work closely with Program Managers to support programming and expeditions throughout the year.

Katlyn joined the Trekkers team in September and has been busy organizing Big Trek Little Trek, attending leadership weekends, and assisting the program team.

In May of 2018 she received a B.S. in University Studies from the University of Maine at Orono with focus areas in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Mathematics. Katlyn grew up in Tenants Harbor and was able to watch her brothers and friends learn and grow from the many benefits of Trekkers.

The organization has always been something to admire for Katlyn even though she didn’t have the privilege to go through the program herself. Therefore, she is very excited to finally be a part of the Trekkers team and continue to be a part of the community that she grew up in. Katlyn enjoys spending time in the outdoors, particularly near any body of water, as well as with friends and family.

Shale just joined as the second AmeriCorps volunteer in mid-October. Shale is a Trekkers Alumni and throughout her six years as a student she built a strong bond with the organization.

Shale continued to volunteer after she graduated and is now excited for her new position, and to continue her Trekkers career and build new relationships within the community. She has seen what the Trekkers experience has done for many students and adults and is enthused to see the continual growth of Trekkers.

Shale is continuing post-secondary education through University of Maine at Augusta with a self-designed communications degree. In her off time, you can find her near the ocean often beach combing, or out on the water. She enjoys traveling to any new destination to see and learn new things.  Shale lives in Thomaston with her family and wandering dog.
