Transportation Museum to hold First Responder celebration weekend, seeks exhibitors
The Owls Head Transportation Museum is inviting first responders from across Maine to attend its first-ever First Responder celebration weekend event on June 27-28 to recognize and give tribute to the dedication and service of the state’s emergency personnel.
Throughout the weekend, the museum will be recognizing the contributions of firefighters, law enforcement, paramedics, and all the departments that serve on the front lines of public safety.
“This is the perfect way for the museum to apply its mission to educate, operate and demonstrate examples significant to the evolution of transportation,” said the museum’s executive director, John Bottero, in an OHTM news release. “While inspiring youth to the wonders of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) related careers, not only will there be examples of the most modern and up to date equipment on hand, but also historic examples reminding visitors just how far we have come.”
“We are looking for first responder exhibitors to come and show the public examples of how their equipment works,” says Scott Entwistle, the museum’s operations director and a first responder himself. “The need to inspire others to serve is always on our minds as we look for ways to carry on these critical services.”
The museum is seeking participation from all agencies across the state, ranging from fire and police to search, rescue, and emergency management organizations. For more information and details on how to take part in this first-of-its-kind event, please inquire by contacting events@ohtm.org.
Founded in 1974, the Owls Head Transportation Museum is a nonprofit educational organization with a mission to collect, preserve, exhibit, and historic aircraft and ground vehicles significant to the evolution of transportation for education. Unlike static displays, the vast majority of OHTM’s collection is operational. The museum also offers a variety of hands-on volunteer opportunities as well as STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs to young students and schools in our new SCIENCE & INDUSTRY CENTER.
