WALDOBORO — Tops’l Farm and the Waldo Theatre host two screenings of the 2004 comedy Napoleon Dynamite July 30 and 31 as part of their Films at the Farm partnership this summer. These outdoor, picnic-blanket “drive-in-style” events will be held at Tops’l Farm (365 Bremen Road).
From Preston, Idaho comes Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder), a new kind of hero complete with a tight red 'fro, some sweet moon boots, and skills that can't be topped. Napoleon lives with his grandma (Sandy Martin) and his 30-year-old, unemployed brother, Kip (Aaron Ruell), who spends his days looking for love in Internet chat rooms. When Grandma hits the road on her quad runner, Napoleon and Kip's meddling Uncle Rico (Jon Gries) comes to town to stay with them and ruin their lives. Run time: 86 mins; Rated: PG.
Reservations are by donation, per person, to cover the cost of film licensing. Any additional funds raised for Napoleon Dynamite will benefit the Waldo’s theatre renovation capital campaign.
Tickets are available online for a pay-what-you-wish donation: waldotheatre.org/pages/events. Audience size is limited to stay within Maine CDC gathering guidelines.
Arrival time at Tops’l is suggested beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the film starting as soon as it’s dark enough for projection. The farm field will be set up “drive-in” style with designated areas for audience members to place their own blankets and chairs, spread apart for social distancing.
You can pre-order Thursday Tops’l Treats or Friday Picnics online. No outside food, please (water is permitted). Masks are required while not in your own “parking spot.” Rain dates will be offered on the same weekends: Thursday films on Sunday and Friday films on Saturday.
