Thomaston Public Library is delighted to announce that, thanks to Healthy Lincoln County and the school nutrition staff at RSU 40, our summer food and activities program has been extended an extra week to August 28!

Our seventh annual 40 Days of Summer program runs Monday through Friday, from 11 am to 1 pm, and has been adapted to take-home projects (everything from slime and draw your own comic strips to homemade playdough and scavenger hunts) and take-out breakfast and lunch. Despite the changes this year, the program has been wildly successful, and we’re serving an average of 30 kids a day. We love to see how creative they all get in the photos shared in our Facebook group! Participation in the take-home project is not required to pick up a meal, and vice versa. There are no income requirements or restrictions. A parent or guardian can pick up one breakfast and lunch per child living in their household. These meals have been absolutely delicious and include such items as chicken Caesar salads, turkey BLT wraps, yogurt parfaits, mini pancakes, fresh fruit, and locally sourced veggies and dips.

We’re also thrilled that Knox County Gleaners has now started dropping off produce from local farms with us on Mondays and Wednesdays! This week we had amazingly fresh corn, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, radishes, and carrots to share with anyone who wanted to pick some up. 

Some other summer food sites in Knox and Lincoln counties may be extending their service to August 28 as well. Healthy Lincoln County recommends checking their Facebook page @LincolnCountySummerMeals for the most up to date information.
