Arch O’Reilly, Society of the Cincinnati, to give short talk on Knox’s life

Thomaston historians to lay wreaths for annual memorial service of Major General Henry Knox

Event has passed

THOMASTON — Each year,  on the Saturday closest to his birth, the Thomaston Historical Society and the Knox Museum partner in celebrating the life of Henry Knox, Major General in the Revolutionary War and first Secretary of War.

Saturday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m., is the annual memorial service at his grave site in the Thomaston Village Cemetery. Follow the sign on Elm Street to the grave site. The service will open and close with color guards from the Maine and Massachusetts Sons of the American Revolution.

Before the laying of wreaths by many organizations, Arch O’Reilly, Society of the Cincinnati, will give a short talk on Knox’s life prior to 1775. The ceremony will close with a moving rendition of taps.

A reception at the Knox Museum follows the service.

“Henry loved a party,” said the Thomaston Historical Society, in a news release. “There will be music, food, and of course, birthday cake.”

The Knox Museum is at the intersection of Rte. 1 and 131 in Thomaston.
