Third time’s the charm? Camden Hills ice hockey hopes to beat Hampden in playoff opener

ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills varsity ice hockey team has qualified for the playoffs and will open postseason action with a home regional quarterfinal contest Tuesday, Feb. 26. 

The Windjammers posted a 11-7 record during the regular season and finished fourth of nine teams in Class B North. The top six teams in the division qualified for the playoffs. 

On Feb. 26, the fourth-seeded Windjammers will host fifth-seeded Hampden Academy (10-7-1 record) at the Midcoast Recreation Center. 

The two squads met during the regular season twice with Hampden sweeping the regular season bouts. 

Camden Hills dropped a road contest 4-1 on Dec. 26 to Hampden and then lost 3-2 at home Jan. 23. 

Other teams qualifying for the playoffs in Class B North, including playoff seeds in parentheses, were Old Town/Orono (first), Presque Isle (second), Waterville/Winslow (third) and John Bapst/Mount Desert Island/Bangor Christian (sixth). 

The winner of the playoff contest in Rockport will travel to Old Town/Orono for a regional semifinal showdown on March 1 or March 2.

The winner of the March showdown will then advance to the regional championship set for March 6 with the state championship coming March 9 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewistion.
