LIBERTY- Sen. Erin D. Herbig, D-Waldo County, will host her third annual “Fill That Shed” fundraiser for a local heating assistance program on Sunday, April 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Lake St. George Brewery on Rt. 3 in Liberty.
"Waldo County Woodshed is a great example of Maine people reaching out to help our neighbors," said Herbig. "We all know how expensive it can be to keep our homes warm through a Maine winter. Now is the right time to make sure the woodpile is high enough to get people through til spring."
Waldo County Woodshed provides quarter-cords of firewood for short-term heating assistance to residents of Waldo County and surrounding communities. Between early October 2018 and mid-March 2019, the volunteer-run nonprofit has provided 170 cords of seasoned wood to 145 homes in 32 towns across 4 counties - a value of $46,000 in assistance.
Money raised this spring will be used to purchase wood from local loggers and landowners for processing and distribution in the 2019/2020 season. Sen. Herbig's goal of $15,000 will purchase 100 cords of wood, about 60% of expected need.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend for the family-style pig roast with all the fixings, lawn games, silent auction, raffle, live music, and lots of fun!
