ELLSWORTH — Maine’s annual Team Hope Walk for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) takes place, rain or shine, Sunday, October 17, beginning at 10 a.m., for pre-registered walkers only at Ellsworth High School located at 24 Lejok Street in Ellsworth.
The walk is up to three miles on the paved Ellsworth Trail and is the only one in Maine.
Required online registration as well as donations to a team or specific walker are found at: https://maine.hdsa.org/about/maine-team-hope-walk.
The goal is to raise money and awareness of Huntington’s Disease – a fatal, hereditary, genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain and renders a person unable to walk, talk, eat and reason.
Returning this year is the Team Hope Online Auction. Through November 17, you can bid on a wide array of enticing gift cards to stores, to scenic flights, and area restaurants. To bid, go to: app.donorview.com/8W8VX.
Maine's Team Hope Walk has been organized once again by Maine Affiliate Chair, Nancy Patterson of Ellsworth.
“There is Huntington’s disease in my immediate family," said Patterson, in a Team Hope news release. "If I had known about HDSA and everything it can do to help families, it would have made all the difference earlier in my life. Fortunately, there is now great hope to find a cure through cutting-edge research. We walk to continue to raise funds for education, support, advocacy, and research. We walk to raise awareness and give hope to those who are fighting this good fight.”
