A Tax Day Uprising

Mon, 04/01/2019 - 2:30pm

Maine Taxpayers United is sponsoring a Tax Day event on Monday, April 15, to highlight the heavy tax burden which is carried by Maine working families. Recent statistics from the National Tax Foundation rank Maine among the most heavily taxed states in the U.S., along with New York, New Jersey, Connecticutt and California, all of which have much higher incomes.

Among the organizations supporting the "Uprising" are the Maine GOP, Maine Heritage Policy Center,  Maine First Project, Maine People Before Politics, Free Maine Campaign, Cumberland County Republican Committee, York County Republican Committee, Maine Patriots and Southern Maine Patriots.

At noon on Monday, April 15, citizens from all over the state wll gather at the Capitol Building to hear speakers who have been prominent for many years in fighting increases in taxes, such as income, gasoline, sales, and many others including perhaps the most onerous of them all — property taxes.

Among the speakers will be Jake Posik, of Maine Heritage Policy Center; former Representative Heather Sirocki of the Maine First Project; former Representative Paula Sutton; former State Senator Eric Brakey, of The Free Maine Campaign; Julie Rabinowitz, of Maine People Before Politics; former U.S. Congressman Bruce Poliquin; and Maine GOP Vice Chair, Nick Isgro.
