SEARSPORT — In the 1920s, radium was a "miracle cure," Marie Curie was a celebrity, and luminous watch dials were the latest craze. Then the girls who painted the dials began to get sick.
Searsport District Middle/High School theater presents Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory, November 15, 16, 22, and 23 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and concessions will be available for purchase.
Based on historical events, Radium Girls follows the efforts of Grace Fryer (Ashley Harriman) to get justice for her suffering from her adversary Arthur Roeder (William Bradley), head of the U.S. Radium Corporation.
Actors Aurora Arsenault, Josh Bragdon, Abby Brown, Bella Campbell, Brendan Courtney, Diamond Dunfee-Platt, Shannen Fitzjurls, Chris Hayes, Erin Hayes, Grace Hayes, Justin Kinney, Caleb McIntire, Bay Nadeau, Lily Nadeau, Taylor Paradise, Harley Prucha, Emma Spiegel, Abby Stone, Ryker Tower, Bethany West, and Danny Woodbury join Ashley and William, play an ensemble of friends, co-workers, relatives, scientists, doctors, attorneys, advocates, and bystanders in this portrayal of American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.
