Original radio comedy, original music, and plenty of fun for the whole family comes your way on Sunday, June 28, at 5 p.m., as the latest installment of “Strand On The Air” hits the WRFR-LP airwaves. Tune in at 93.3 in Rockland, 99.3 in Camden, or stream from their website at WRFR.org.
The “Son Of Social Distancing Special,” the latest in the summer series of full-hour radio variety shows presented by the Strand Theatre in Rockland, was written, directed, and hosted by Strand house manager Liz McLeod.
This month’s program will feature a return guest-star engagement by Waldo County old-time-harmony duo Patty Jackson and Rusty Blake, who enchanted listeners in a live appearance on the program last summer, according to Strand, in a news release.
Strand education coordinator Brittany Parker returns as leader of the one-woman house band along with announcer Dan Bookham and Strand Family Players Lili Bonarrigo and Lindsey Reilly.
Comedy segments will include another socially-distant edition of “All Things Rescinded,” with newscasters Karl Stuffel and Camomile Bourgeois, and a new visit to the forgotten coastal backwater of Abysmal Point, where clam-shack magnate Mrs. Grunden and her dubious assistant Lilita consider the hazardous possibility of putting their operation on wheels.
In addition to these regular features, Liz McLeod will offer a technical demonstration of exactly how radio comedy works, accompanied by a larger-than-life guest expert with very small arms. The program, assembled from bits individually recorded at home by the cast and edited together, will be available after the WRFR broadcast via the Strand website and on popular podcast platforms.
