Starting a home herb garden at Merryspring Nature Center
Gardener Denise DeSpirito will lead a presentation on starting a home herb garden at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, April 24, at noon.
As the season moves into spring, gardeners are like seeds bursting forth full of energy and ready to start the garden. However, planning is important to understand what to grow and where to plant. In this first installment of her Backyard Herbalism series, Denise DeSpirito speaks about must-have perennial herbs, selecting plants and seeds, preparing beds and optimal planting conditions, and growing in different types of soils. Time will be allotted for attendees to ask questions and share details about their own gardens.
Denise DeSpirito is gardener and herbalist. She has grown herbs all over the northeast, including Avena Botanicals in Rockport, Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in New York, and Farmacy Herbs in Rhode Island. She currently serves as Gardens Manager at Merryspring.
This lecture is part of the Spring Talk series at Merryspring, sponsored by Camden National Bank. Admission to Tuesday talks is $5, with free admission for members of Merryspring.
