“Due to the likelihood of inclement weather, the Public Hearing and Special Town Meeting scheduled for February 23, 2023, at 7 p.m., will be postponed,” said the Town of St.. George, in a news release.
The new proposed date will be March 9, 2023, at 7 p.m.
ST. GEORGE — The St. George Select Board has voted to call a Special Town Meeting for Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at 7 p.m. The meeting, which will be held at the Town Office in Tenants Harbor, will have two articles of business, both dealing with the Ambulance Service.
After the election of a moderator, Article 2 will ask the Town to approve $87,500 from Fund Balance to support the ambulance service through the rest of the fiscal year. This will supplement funds that were appropriated at the 2022 Annual Town Meeting.
Article 3 asks the Town to authorize the Select Board to enter into an Asset Transfer Agreement with the St. George Volunteer Firemen’s Association. This agreement will allow the Town to accept ownership of ambulance vehicles, equipment, licenses, and other related assets. It is a step toward transitioning the ambulance service from a nonprofit association to a department of the Town.
Additional votes will be required at Annual Town Meeting time to formally establish the new department and to provide funding for it in the annual budget.
