On Saturday, September 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Blue Tulip Garden Boutique in Tenants Harbor will host “Art in the Garden,” an opportunity to see two St. George artists working en plein air in Blue Tulip’s gardens.
Impressionist Alicia Hammatt, a life-long artist and resident of Tenants Harbor, will be painting garden scenes in oil. Pat Towle, a retired teacher and summer resident of Port Clyde, has been painting decorative folk art for more than 30 years. She began painting in oil four years ago and, at the Blue Tulip, will demonstrate plein air techniques she learned at two workshops taught by Maine artists.
The Blue Tulip is one of 20 St. George art galleries, studios and shops that will be open to display local artists’ work during the St. George Business Alliance’s September 14 “Touring Peninsula Art” event. Look for SGBA’s colorful “ART TOUR” lawn signs at participating locations.
“Art in the Garden” will be held, rain or shine, with artists working under cover, if necessary. In the event of lightening or thunderstorms, artists will be on site to display and discuss their work, but plein air painting will be cancelled. Call Rosemary and Jan Limmen at 372.8102 if in doubt.
The Blue Tulip is a St. George Business Alliance founding member and Art Tour sponsor. For more info about Blue Tulip Garden Boutique, Lodging & Landscaping, bluetulipmaine.com.
