BELFAST — Attention singers! The 2019 Belfast Choral Festival, the 3rd annual, will take place the weekend of October 4 - 6 at The First Church in Belfast, UCC.
Participants rehearse on Friday evening and Saturday and present a concert on Sunday afternoon.
“Led once again by Dr. Ronald Sherwin (University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth) and Dr. Sarah McQuarrie (Bridgewater State University), this will be another wonderful and fun weekend of singing and sharing a message of hope, purpose and peace,” said First Church, in a news release.
There are opportunities for all ages. The Festival Choir is for young people in grades 6-12 and adults of any age. The Children's Choir is for those in grades K-5.
Participants for both the Festival and Children's Choirs must register in advance. Forms can be obtained online from the church website: www.firstchurchinbelfast.org or from the church office at 8 Court St., Belfast.
Adult singers must purchase their own music from J.W. Pepper (online link is on the registration form). However, each student's music will be provided for them (middle and high school teachers must provide the number of their students who will participate). The Children's Choir will not require sheet music. There is no other cost for the event.
The free concert, Songs of Purpose and Peace, is open to the public and will be presented on Sunday, October 6, at 3 p.m., and include both the Festival and Children's Choirs.
In addition to this, the church is holding a community supper on Saturday, October 5, at 5 p.m., in the church Fellowship Hall, to which everyone is invited (donations accepted).
The First Church is an Open and Affirming Congregation, ADA Accessible, located at 104 Church Street in Belfast. For more information, call the church office at 338-2282, check out the Church on Facebook @FirstChurchinBelfastUCC or the website: www.firstchurchinbelfast.org.
