Tickets are now on sale for a sizzling community event, the 2019 Firefighters Ball, and the public is invited for an evening of dancing and raising money for good causes. In light of recent events that took place with Farmington Fire, a portion of ticket sales will be donated to the Farmington Fire Department's Benevolent Association to help those involved in the tragic accident that happened on September 16, 2019.
“We have a great night planned of fun, food and dancing,” said organizers. “And this event is open to the entire community. No Class A or B uniforms are required. Just show up ready to dance and have a great evening with your local First Responders.”
The Ball will take place October 5 at the Rockland Elks Club with all funds donated to the Portland Firefighters Children’s Burn Foundation, as well as scholarships for high school seniors entering the field of firefighting and emergency medical services.
Local firefighters and friends will gather for music, hors-d'oeuvres and dancing, and raise money for the important work of the Children’s Burn Foundation.
The Portland Firefighters Children’s Burn Foundation provides “relief to burn survivors and their families, to prevent burn injuries through education and training, and to help facilitate education about burn injuries and burn recovery to the People and Fire and Medical Professionals in the State of Maine.”
The Foundation assists with treatment expenses beyond insurance coverage, home modifications to deal with new limitations, support groups and social events with other burn survivors and family members.
Last winter, in January, the Winter Burn Camp was in the Camden-Rockland area, first at the Camden Snow Bowl for an afternoon of skiing, followed by a pizza party at the Rockland Fire Station.
Midcoast firefighters recognize the good work of the Foundation. As well, they encourage high school students to pursue first responder professions, which always need young women and men to help fill the ranks.
The evening will offer guests with hors-d'oeuvres, drinks and dancing to music provided by Echo Entertainment to raise much needed funds to support two wonderful causes.
Proceeds will benefit the Portland Firefighters Children’s Burn Foundation, which assists with treatment expenses beyond insurance coverage, home modifications to deal with new limitations, support groups and social events with other burn survivors and family members. Each year the Foundation also hosts a Fire & Ice Winter Camp for burn survivors ages 10-18 so they can interact with their peers who have been through a similar traumatic event in
Additionally, the Firefighters Ball Committee, consisting of local volunteers, will set up a scholarship fund for any graduating Maine senior who wants to further his or her education in the Fire & EMS fields.
The Ball begins at 7 p.m., with music by Echo Entertainment.
Appetizers and desserts will be provided. Cash bar.
