The session requires a quorum of Senate members or 18 members of the Senate. Per the Legislature’s Joint-Rules, Senate confirmations require a two-thirds vote of members present to overturn the committee of jurisdiction’s recommendation. For example, a committee recommends the confirmation of nominees, a two-thirds vote is required to prevent those nominations from moving forward.

Business will be conducted in the House chamber and in compliance with the Legislative Council’s COVID-19 health and safety policy.

Assigned seating will be separated by more than six feet and each desk in the chamber will be supplied with a bottle of hand sanitizer. The desks and microphones will be sanitized. Voting tablets will also be sanitized and placed on the member’s assigned desk. These tablets must remain at the desk at all times. Senate members may use their tablets for voting and the paperless chamber program. A hand sanitizing station will also be set up at the entrance to the chamber.

The State House remains closed to the public. Video and audio of the Senate Confirmation Session will be made available to the public online at www.legislature.maine.gov.
