SEARSPORT — Searsport Cleanup Day is on Saturday, April 24. Start time is 9 a.m.
“We are looking for volunteers of all ages to help us clean up the streets and beaches of our home,” said organizers, in a news release.
Meet at Mermaid Plaza, One East Main Street, for equipment, donuts and details. Cleanup route will extend from Moose Point to Sears Island along both road and coastal sections. The focus will be on collecting garbage/debris, preparing garden beds/boxes and cutting browntail moth nests (if comfortable doing so).
“At work, no problem,” said organizers. “It's a great time to clean-up up the front of your storefront and prepare your beds for spring planting!
The materials collected that morning can be dropped off at the Mermaid Plaza parking lot so they can be taken to the Searsport Transfer Station which will be opening to help with town cleanup day. Donuts and coffee at 9 a.m. Burgers and hot dogs at 12 p.m. for all volunteers.
Please bring your gloves and mask, wear a bright shirt and have your clippers handy if you are willing to cut out BTM webbings (special soap containers will be provided for nests).
