Sculpture Race to hit streets during Solstice Celebration

ROCKLAND — The Rockland Sculpture Race takes to the streets again this year in conjunction with the Summer Solstice Celebration on Saturday, June 15, at 5 p.m.

Beginning at the corner of Main Street and Tillson Avenue, racers will turn right on Park Street and right on Winter Street, ending in the CMCA courtyard for an award ceremony. 

Awards will be given out for Speed, Most Outlandish, Craziest Costumes, Engineering Ingenuity, People’s Choice and Yute Award. 

This years race contraptions include a Giant Ice Cream, Tasha the Hippo, Taco Tank, Bath Bombers, Whale, Granny Mobile, Ziraffe, Giant Hamster Wheel, The Merry Pagans and A Day at the Opera.

The public can see the sculptures up close, from 4 to 5 p.m., on Main Street and vote a for People’s Choice.

Judges this year will be Bethany Engstrom from the CMCA and Gordon Page from Rockland Main Street.
