compost your pumpkins, grab a cup of cider

ScrapDogs holds free pumpkin collection at Midcoast Solid Waste, Nov. 5

Event has passed

ROCKPORT — ScrapDogs Community Compost will host a free pumpkin collection for all members of the community Saturday, Nov. 5, from 8 - 4 p.m., at Midcoast Solid Waste.

Residents throughout the Midcoast interested in composting their pumpkins from Halloween can make use of the drop-off location.

Pumpkins dropped should have all candles and or plastics removed before they are brought to the transfer station.

ScrapDogs will have apple cider and light refreshments available for residents that do participate.

ScrapDogs Community Compost was founded in 2018 with the goal of reducing food waste sent to landfills and incinerators, and promoting a healthy and thriving local food system. Over 40% of all waste disposed of in Maine could be composted instead, reducing not only carbon and methane emissions, but often costs as well. To this end, ScrapDogs offers food waste collection services to residents, restaurants, schools, and other food waste-producing organizations in midcoast Maine, and also manages drop-off locations at the Mid-Coast Solid Waste transfer in Rockport and the Cooperative Transfer Station in Thomaston.

ScrapDogs currently provides subscribers with curbside collection and drop-off services between Thomaston and Belfast. ScrapDogs partners with Bó Lait Dairy Farm in Washington, ME to process the collected food waste into finished compost that is then returned to customers and community members.
