ROCKPORT —  A juried exhibition of work by former scholarship and fellowship awardees of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship opens at its Messler Gallery in Rockport, Maine, on Friday, September 21. The opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the public is cordially encouraged to attend. The exhibition runs through January 2, 2019.

The 21 pieces on display are a testament to the value of scholarships and fellowships in nurturing creative growth and technical accomplishment.  Monica Raymond, a Vermont woodworker who received a Fellowship after taking the Center’s Nine-month Comprehensive course in 2011-12, says, “My time at the school and the friendships I made have been life-changing. I came to understand the meaning of creativity and craft while learning to make beautiful furniture.”

Jurors for the exhibition are the Center’s Lead Instructors: Aled Lewis (Machynlleth, Wales) who heads the Nine-month Comprehensive program; Aaron Fedarko (Camden, ME), Brian Reid (Rockland, ME), and Tim Rousseau (Appleton, ME), who teach three-month Furniture Intensives; and Beth Ireland (St. Petersburg, FL), who leads the eight-week Turning Intensive.

Exhibitors include professional and avocational woodworkers from across the U.S. and abroad. They are Holly Berry (Waldoboro, ME), Mark Catalini (Pepperell, MA), Kevin Costante (Brooklyn, NY), Emily Deutchman (Easthampton, MA), Peter Fleming (Toronto, ON), Tyler Gaston (Indiana, PA), Ethan Hagenbuch (Stacy, MN), Matthew Hedgepath-Smith (Austin, TX), Garett Jacobs (Brunswick, ME), Chloris Lowe (Cam Douglas, WI), Cedric Martin (Kingston, NY), Jeffery Mazur (Toledo, OH), Brian McAlpine (Portland, ME), Isabelle Moore (Edinburgh, UK), Joseph Murphy (Madison, WI), Katherine Park (Hamden, CT), Monica Raymond (Burlington, VT), Libby Schrum (Camden, ME), Karina Steele (Camden, ME), John Tomaszewski (Wells, ME), and Christina Vincent (North Haven, ME).

The gallery is located on the campus of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, at the corner of Route 90 and Mill Street in Rockport, Maine.
