Hope residents Sandie Sabaka and Brendan Curran ventured to the High Arctic of Svalbard in September 2019. They spent 11 days aboard a small icebreaker ship on a private charter through the fjords and pack ice of this Norwegian archipelago that lies 600 miles from the North Pole.
-
"Svalbard is a place of austere beauty where polar bears, walrus and seals live amongst the snow and ice while the bird life and Arctic light dance overhead," said a Hope Library news release. "It was truly a trip of a lifetime and a most powerful experience for these adventure travelers."
