ROCKPORT — Residents sitting on the porch of their Commercial Street home in Rockport were jolted, Saturday, Sept. 12, just before 1 p.m., following the sound of a loud bang.

The homeowners, who said they’ve seen many motor vehicles accidents along that stretch of road in their multiple decades in residence, today looked up in time to witness a blue car spin around and roll a long distance backwards down Route 1 toward Rockland.

For approximately 40 minutes, southbound traffic along Commercial Street (Route 1) was rerouted along Warrenton Street following a two-car crash in front of a Commercial Street motel that sent one person to a local hospital. With both cars pulled to the sides of the road, northbound traffic was allow through the scene, except when the wrecker loaded one of the cars.

Rockport Fire and police, North East Mobile Health, and Rockland EMS all responded to the scene. All units cleared the scene by approximately 1:30 p.m.
