Mon, 08/02/2021 - 3:00pm

ROCKPORT — The task force that has been assigned with fielding development ideas for the former Rockport Elementary School (RES) site at the corner of Routes 1 and 90 (West Street) in Rockport Village will convene in person Tuesday evening to talk about the 7.4-acre parcel’s future.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. and can be watched on Livestream: https://livestream.com/Rockportmaine

Two developers presented their ideas in June to the task force:

Allen Mitchell, on behalf of Almar Inc., suggested developing the property into five lots, each containing a two-bedroom home, and to keep the property’s softball field intact.

Portland-based NewHeight Group, a development firm specializing in affordable and market-rate housing, provided several examples of buildings they have constructed throughout the state, ranging from apartment complexes to community housing developments.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the task force will consider:

Have a iscussion/alignment needed with Select Board and/or Rockport residents?

      1. Consideration of other interested developers in this process?
      2. Potential short-term or interim uses of site?
      3. Advise on follow-up with developers
      4. Potential next step: Outline a Process, including Timeline, for Engaging Community and Developer to Determine Priority Uses of site and a Plan for proceeding
