ROCKPORT — What do dogs and crossfitting have in common? Stone Coast CrossFit owners Nick Brown and Lily Hamill will answer that question Saturday, Feb. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at their Rockport training center when they host "Muscles For Mutts."

The capital campaign fundraising event supports construction of a doggie exercise yard at P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center's planned new facility in Camden, scheduled to open in 2015.

"Muscles For Mutts" is open to pet friends of all athletic abilities who want to help the kinds of abandoned and homeless dogs that P.A.W.S. cares for each day.

Individuals and teams can participate in the event.

The goal is $10,000. P.A.W.S. Executive Director and crossfit coach Amie Hutchison is expecting no less. "If 'Muscles For Mutts' meets our $10,000 goal, I am going to let Nick Brown choose the design of my next tattoo. It's a risk I'm happy to take. P.A.W.S. is so fortunate to have Nick and Lily supporting our capital campaign," she said in a news release.

The family-friendly day will include activities and exercises for kids of all ages.

As an added bonus, athletes raising an individual total of $500 can get a commemorative tattoo inked on February 8 from Josh Watmough of Atlantic Studios. The tattoo design, featuring Stone Coast's signature kettle bell with a dog paw, was created by Little Bee Designs and is available at no cost to top competitors.

Seabright in Camden will provide pizzas for everyone, and Moonshine Herbals will be on hand with samples of its products.

SCCF co-owner Lily Hamill said about the event, "Stone Coast has always had a soft spot for animals and it's only natural for us to do what we can for P.A.W.S. The CrossFit community is notorious for stepping up to provide for those in need."

In preparation for "Muscles For Mutts," Amie Hutchison will offer registered participants two free training sessions at Stone Coast CrossFit, 321 Commercial St., Rockport, on January 24 and 31 from noon to 1 p.m.
