Rockland Public Library's Summer Reading Program begins June 26

    Rockland Public Library's Summer Reading Program is starting soon.

    There are programs for kids, teens, and adults, and will operate June 26 - August 7

    People can participate in person or online using rocklandmaine.beanstack.org. For those participating offline, sign-up sheets are now available at Rockland Public Library.

     

    When participants are not reading, they are invited to enjoy virtual programs with special guests, including:

     

    Most Mondays, June 29 - Aug 3 – Facebook LIVE Storytime with Ms. Jenn

    Celebrate Summer Reading Program with 5 weeks of LIVE storytimes with Ms. Jenn on the Rockland Public Library Facebook page. Ms. Jenn will read, sing, and introduce you to fun activities like Fairytale Yoga & Pocket Dice dance moves. This interactive storytime will include fairytale songs and stories to get your mind and body moving! Perfect for toddlers-early elementary.

    Ms. Jenn is on Mondays, at 10:30 a.m., June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20, (no Ms. Jenn on July 27), and Aug 3.

    Wed, July 1, at 11 a.m. – Fairy Tale Puppet Show (on Facebook)

    Join Dewey the Dragon and his puppet friends as they read and act out some of your favorite fairy tales. Puppeteer Alex Thomas is bringing Rockland Public Library a very special YouTube puppet show to kick off Summer Reading Program. This YouTube video will be posted on our Facebook page for one week following it's 7/1/20 reveal.

    Wed, July 8, at 11 a.m. – Facebook LIVE Author Visit with Chris Van Dusen 

    Author/illustrator Chris Van Dusen will be reading a book or two of his, then talking to the group about how he writes and illustrates his stories. You may know Chris Van Dusen from his books The Circus Ship, If I Built a Car, and Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee, but did you know he also illustrated the Mercy Watson series?

    Wed. July 15, at 11 a.m. – Facebook Live Author Visit with Fran Hodgkins

    Recommended for ages 10 and up

    Author Fran Hodgkins will be reading an excerpt from her new YA novel, Hex: The Apprentice, and then talking to us about her writing process. Listen, learn, and chat live! Fran Hodgkins is an author of more than two dozen books, including the picture book Andre the Famous Harbor Seal.

    Wed, July 22, at 11 a.m. – Virtual Animation Workshop (on Facebook)

    Recommended for ages 8 and up

    Join Alex Thomas to learn how to create several animations using free open source software. The demonstrated software works on Mac and PC computers. Alex will suggest an alternative app for children who only have access to a tablet or mobile device. This YouTube video will be posted on our Facebook page for one week following it's 7/22/20 reveal.

    Thur, July 30, at 11 a.m. – Digital Escape Room

    For Teens and Adults

    Join in the excitement of hunting for clues and the joy of solving puzzles, in this digital escape room, custom made by Jessie.

     

    Participants will also get a chance to take part in an art class and meet with an animal specialist at Chewonki to see some of their live, rescued animals.
