ROCKLAND — Logan Finnegan has been hired as Rockland’s new patrol officer, according to a news release on the department’s Facebook page.

Finnegan was sworn in Sept. 1 at the department.

His father, the former Sgt. Don Finnegan, served Rockland for 25 years before his retirement in 2017.

Finnegan graduated from Oceanside High School and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

During his enlistment with the USMC, he studied signals intelligence with radios, computers, and satellites. Finnegan received various awards including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Finnegan completed his enlistment with the Marines last month. He then attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and completed its law enforcement pre-service course.

He shared why he wanted to become a police officer and what made him choose joining the Rockland Police Department.

"I chose to pursue a career in law enforcement because I wanted to help people, and I believe I can best help the people of my community in this capacity,” Finnegan said. I grew up around law enforcement officers, and have seen the impact first-hand of what compassionate, dedicated professionals can have on a community.”

“I chose the Rockland Police Department because of my connection to the area, and because my father retired from Rockland PD recently. I saw the passion and excellence that he brought to the job, which made me want to do the same. I have my community and my family to thank for shaping me into who I am today, so I want to give back to them as much as I can,” he added.

Finnegan recalled that when while he was in school, he would stop by the police department to do his homework.

“Everyone who worked there come up to me, to make sure I felt welcomed."
