ROCKLAND — The state and an attorney for a Rockland man who was charged last year with terrorizing, which caused a lockdown in Rockland area schools (Regional School Unit 13), reached an agreement where the charge will be dismissed.

Brandon M. Luzzi, 62, appeared in Knox County Unified Court before Justice Bruce Mallonee Jan. 16. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of terrorizing. The initial felony charge of terrorizing was dismissed.

The deferred disposition agreement stipulates that the terrorizing misdemeanor charge will be dropped in six months if Luzzi continues with his mental health treatment and complies with conditions, including taking all his prescribed medications and not possessing any firearms.

On May 29, Rockland police received a call from a woman, who is a friend of Luzzi’s, who said that he had told her he heard voices telling him to do a school shooting, according to the police affidavit filed in court.

It was reported that Luzzi had access to guns since he was a hunter.

At the time of the threat, Luzzi was living near the South School in Rockland and police later seized multiple firearms, including ammunition, from his apartment, according to the court document.

He was taken into custody by Rockland police and taken to Pen Bay Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation and has been continuing treatment at another facility.
