Rockland — The Rockland City Council had a busy agenda April 14, but it was a quick meeting in City Hall, where employee Raymond Athearn and Lloyd Daniels were singled out for their dedication to the city.

Athearn was lauded by Councilor Eric Hebert as the longest employee the city has ever had. Athearn retired from the Public Works Department. The Council and Police Chief Bruce Boucher recognized Officer Daniels for his 32 years of service. Acting City Manager Tom Luttrell announced that Asst. Fire Chief Adam Miceli will serve as interim fire chief, beginning May 1. Rockland Fire Chief Charlie Jordon announced in January that he was retiring at the end of April.

Mayor Larry Pritchett reminded viewers and those in the audience that there would be a public hearing April 23 regarding proposed repairs to Old County Road. The public hearing is a requirement pursuant to the city issuing a bond to repair a section of that road.

Linda Bodnor, Wayne Gray and James Kalloch were appointed election clerks for the city. Their terms will run two years. Teisha Hufnagal was appointed acting election warden and Chelsea Avirett was appointed acting ward clerk, both serving during the June 10 election.

Temporary street closures were granted for the Maine Lobster Festival to hold its annual parade Aug. 2, 2014. The Farnsworth Art Museum asked to close Museum Street on July 11 for its annual Gala and Rockland Maine Street received approval to close Main Street between Park and Summer streets for the 13th annual Summer Solstice Celebration Saturday, June 21.

Gordon Page Jr. spoke in support of Rockland Maine Street’s Summer Solstice, saying the annual event had been going on for the better part of a decade. Page also asked that the Council waive the city’s fee for the event.
