Rockland Coast Guard Station to hold open house Aug. 3, 4
Event has passed
The U.S. Coast Guard Station Rockland is sponsoring an open house of its facility on Aug. 3 and 4, noon to 4 p.m.
In addition to touring the facility and Coast Guard vessels assigned to the Rockland station the Coast Guard Auxiliary robotic boat Coastie, always a hit with young children, will be on hand.
The station is located at the end of Tillson Avenue and is within walking distance of the Lobster Festival site.
This event provides an opportunity for the public to learn more about the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Service members will provide escort to visitors and answer questions about the missions of the Coast Guard and what it's like to be a member of the USCG or the Auxiliary.
This event also provides a opportunity for arranging a USCG Auxiliary Vessel Safety Check for boats or attending a boater safety course. There will be literature available on boating safety, current boating regulations and the ever popular owner identification stickers for canoes, kayaks and other paddle boats.
Coast Guard recruiters will be on hand for those interested in exploring service opportunities in the USCG and Reserves. USCG Auxiliary personnel will be on hand to provide information on the Auxiliary, it's mission and what it is like to be a member of the voluntary organization that supports the Coast Guard in its missions.
