ROCKLAND — The Good Tern Natural Foods Co-op’s slate of winter events begins Wednesday, January 16.

Good Tern Natural Foods Cooperative Market and Bagel Café announces a slate of early winter events, including classes, lectures, exhibitions and a wine-tasting. The market is located at 750-754 Main St., in Rockland’s North End.

The first event, Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m., is Fermenting Your Roots. Participants can learn methods and recipes for preserving root vegetables through the winter. The class is taught by the co-op’s Wellness Buyer, Jodi Cooper, who has many years’ experience preparing sauerkraut, yogurt and other ferments and who initially learned her craft from her father, according to a news release.

Beyond preserving, fermentation also provides healthful food and drink, according to Cooper.

Bring a pint canning jar to this class, which is free. A hat will be passed to cover other expenses.
