Roberta M. Frye, obituary

CAMDEN — Roberta “Berta” Verrill Frye, quietly passed away in her sleep in October at the age of 87, from complications of dementia.

Roberta was born to Blanche Johnson Verrill and Leonard M. Verrill of Cape Elizabeth and Bailey’s Island. She was gentle and gracious, a beloved wife, mother, Nana and Aunt. While putting herself through Gorham State Teachers College, she met her husband, Gail E. Frye. 

After graduating they were married and moved to Gail’s home town of Camden. There they spent 57 years together raising their daughters and enjoying life. Berta taught elementary school classes in Rockland for 17 years, beginning with 1st grade and retiring from the Migrant Education Program. She delighted in her granddaughter and great nephew and niece. Roberta enjoyed travel, history, reading, bird watching and was a dedicated member of the John Street Methodist Church. 

The Frye family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Quarry Hill Nursing and Long Term Care Facility. 

During this time of COVID, their care for Roberta and arranging of ZOOM and window visits were a blessing to the whole family. 

In rejoining her husband in heaven, she leaves her daughters Laurel Frye of Belfast, Holly Frye Columbus of New Hampshire and daughter of the heart, Ann Soave of Stockton Springs; son-in-law Chris and granddaughter Alexandra Columbus of New Hampshire; niece and nephew Kathy Oliver and her husband Pete Smythe, Dale Gardner and his wife Lauri Andrews, Bertha Gardner and their children Katie Gardner, Kellie G. Oakes and her husband John’ great grand nephew and niece Everett and Fianna Oaks.

A small family service was held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Camden.
