CAMDEN — Quarry Hill honored 120 area citizens, including dozens of its own residents, at two volunteer-recognition luncheons held April 13 and 14 at the community's Anderson Inn.

A tradition observed each year in conjunction with National Volunteer Week, the events celebrate those who donate their time and talents in support of Quarry Hill and its efforts to improve the lives of adults age 55-plus.

Volunteers donated an estimated 1,500 hours of service to Quarry Hill in 2015, according to activities director and volunteer coordinator Noreen Clark. Volunteers helped with field trips and other functions, provided entertainment, played games with residents, read to those with poor vision, brought pets to visit, provided computer help, conducted prayer groups, and offered simple companionship. In addition, approximately 50 Quarry Hill residents volunteered by serving on committees, assisting with office tasks, helping with activities, opening their homes to prospective residents, and more.

Speakers at the two lunches included Quarry Hill executive director Mary Sargent; administrator Nancy Marcille, RN; volunteer coordinator Clark; and several of the volunteers. Mary Lou Eugley spoke for many of her fellow resident-volunteers:
"Quarry Hill is our own community, and our volunteerism makes it a special place to call home," she said in a news release.
