SEARSPORT — Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, and Senator Erin Herbig, D-Belfast, will introduce the Fighting for Maine Agenda at a town hall meeting in Searsport on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The Fighting for Maine Agenda outlines an ambitious plan to improve the lives of Maine families, workers, seniors, businesses and communities in the upcoming session, according to the office of the senate president, in a news release.

The town hall meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Searsport First Congregational Church. Join Senator Herbig and President Jackson for brief comments from lawmakers and extended Q&A. All members of the public are welcome.

“Too many people feel like our government isn’t working for them,” said President Jackson, in the release. “We’re setting out to change that. The Fighting for Maine Agenda is about making sure our priorities reflect the priorities of hardworking Mainers, families and seniors, and then following through for the people of Maine. There’s no doubt that this is an ambitious agenda but we weren’t sent to Augusta to adopt piecemeal solutions that barely scratch the surface of what people are facing. We were sent here to embrace our most pressing challenges head-on, and get results. With the Fighting for Maine Agenda that is exactly what we’re prepared to do.”

“In order to improve people’s lives across the state, we must break down the barriers to success in rural Maine,” said Senator Herbig. “That means expanding access to reliable, high-speed internet; supporting our veterans and first responders; and providing local training for local jobs. At my town hall with President Jackson, I’m looking forward to discussing our work and hearing your questions and concerns.”

The agenda contains six core objectives from reforming our health care system to providing property tax relief and lays out a comprehensive plan to achieve those goals.

The Fighting for Maine Agenda includes:

Fixing our broken health care system
Standing up for Maine workers and businesses
Providing property tax relief
Protecting Maine families
Continuing proud traditions
Working toward energy independence
