Last week, DMR sent a notice that the Lobster Zone Council meetings scheduled for the current week had been postponed. At this time, DMR is advising the industry that the entire schedule of meetings is currently on hold. The Commissioner regrets the delays but wants to ensure that we develop a proposal for submission to NMFS that reflects a thorough review of all data.
“Please be assured that we will share with you an updated meeting schedule when it becomes available,” said DMR, in a news release. The Department remains committed to meeting with industry members before any proposal is formally submitted to NMFS.
Maine’s Dept. of Marine Resources released the tentative dates for the second round of lobster zone council meetings regarding what measures Maine intends to submit to the National Marine Fisheries Service to reduce risk to right whales.
Due to Department’s ongoing efforts to analyze the data that will inform Maine’s plan, the DMR postponed next week's meetings (Zone E and Zone C). The remaining meeting dates have not changed at this time.
