Points North at Strand Theatre screens three new documentary
Points North, the nonprofit organization behind the Camden International Film Festival (CIFF), announces the next three films of their ongoing monthly screening series Points North Presents. The series takes place on the fourth Thursdays of June, July, and August and is produced in collaboration with the Strand Theatre.
Points North Presents brings some of the year’s best documentaries to Midcoast Maine, with each screening followed by a community discussion intended to create space for genuine exchange between artwork, artists, and local audiences, according to Points North, in a news release.
Points North Presents’ summer slate kicks off with Felipe Bustos Sierra’s Everybody to Kenmure Street on June 25 and followed by a special panel discussion produced in partnership with the ACLU of Maine. It is followed by Oscar-nominated director Sara Dosa’s Time and Water, on July 23 and Penny Lane’s Wild Inside on August 27. Each screening will include a post-screening conversation.
There will also be a special screening of Sara Dosa’s Time and Water at 7 p.m. on July 24 at Waterman’s Community Center on North Haven. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
“Points North Presents is central to what we do – bringing people together around documentary film, creating shared experiences and conversations that connect us more deeply,” said Points North Artistic Director Sean Flynn. “After a vibrant Spring series, we can’t wait for the journeys these next three films will take us on together: from the streets of Edinburgh to the glaciers of Iceland to the wilds of the island of Manhattan. Each film is filled with joy, sadness, beauty, and adventure, inspiring us to look at our fast-changing world from a new point of view.”
Points North Presents is an opportunity to see films that have earned their place on the world stage — documentaries that might otherwise only be seen at major festivals, now here in Rockland.
"Many in this series lack formal distribution, which makes evenings like these rare chances to support independent filmmakers and encounter stories and voices that don't often make it to local screens," said Points North. "Whether you're a longtime CIFF attendee or walking through our doors for the first time, we'd love to have you. Come for the film. Stay for the conversation."
