Poets to read from ‘Poetry in Motion’ ekphrastic collaboration

Event has passed

Selected poets will present readings, Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, from 4 - 5:30 p.m., via Zoom. The readings are a part of Poetry in Motion, an ekphrastic poetry collaboration between The Poets Corner and Page Gallery.

“The exhibition and readings make connections between visual art and poetry to encourage us to consider new ways of seeing and deepen our understanding of both forms of art,” said The Poets Corner, in a news release.

The Poets Corner and Page Gallery invited the community to write poems in response to images in the Poetry in Motion exhibition as well as Sal Taylor Kydd’s concurrent exhibit, Yesterday. Images can be viewed online at https://www.thepagegallery.com/exhibition/poetry-in-motion or in person at the Page Gallery, on Bayview Street in Camden.

Two selections of poems were made:

“The Poets Choice” will be read by the poets. Poems were selected from among nearly 100 submissions written in response to range of artworks in the exhibition.  The selected poets were chosen based on a mix of voices and approaches to writing ekphrastic poetry and include:  Marjorie Arnett, Betsey Banks, Amanda Dzimianski, Beth Fox, B Francis, Paula Glocker, Margaret Haberman, K Roberts, David Sloan, Susan Tenney, Jeri Theriault, Katharine Weinmann, Cathy Wittmeyer, and Lucinda Ziesing.

“The Artists’ Selection” will be read in person at the gallery on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Ekphrastic writing is an age-old tradition of creating a literary description or commentary on a work of art.
