Persuasive writing, speaking workshop in Belfast
BELFAST — “Writing and Speaking to Change the World” will be offered by Linda Buckmaster, Saturdays, January 5 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Belfast Free Library.
This free two-part participatory workshop will help writers of any experience and interest take their persuasive writing and public speaking to the next level.
Participants will build the skills to write letters to the editor and legislators; compose effective opinion pieces; create public testimony; and deliver public comments or speeches. Whether you are very experienced or just finding your voice, this workshop can be helpful for you.
The first session will focus on the basics of persuasive writing and speaking, such as audience, persuasive appeals, organization of material, use of evidence and sources, libel and other legal issues, and fitting to time and word limits.
The optional second session will give participants the opportunity to build their public speaking skills by practicing the elements of delivery. Attendance at the first is required to participate in the second.
Both workshops will be participatory, and a safe atmosphere will be maintained so people can try new ways to express their opinions.
Bring writing materials.
